Peugeot 206 Powertrain Malfunction

I am experiencing a powertrain malfunction in my 2000 Peugeot 206 with a diesel engine. The vehicle has 86395 km on the clock. Specifically, the transfer case seems to be in limp mode. I've observed that the gearbox slips and the shifts are unclean. Could consequential faults from the ABS system be a likely cause?

I own a 206 too, and had similar symptoms. Unclean shifts definitely sound familiar. Was the torque converter affected? Did you notice anything with the gear selector?

Thanks for your input. To clarify, I haven't specifically checked the torque converter, but the gear selector feels unusually stiff. Does this align with your experience?

Yes, a stiff gear selector was definitely part of my problem, which points to potential issues within the transfer case itself. A workshop diagnosis might be wise to prevent further damage.

Thank you. I appreciate the confirmation. Following your advice, I took it to a workshop. Turns out the ABS unit was indeed faulty, leading to these consequential faults. The ABS unit was replaced at no cost, so the limp mode issue is now resolved.
