Peugeot 206 rough cold start

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2003 Peugeot 206 diesel. When it's cold outside, the engine runs really rough for the first few minutes. It also seems like my fuel consumption has gone up, and I scanned it and there's an error code related to the heating system. Could this be related to the heater? Anyone seen this before?

I had a similar problem with my 206! Do you have the exact error code? The symptoms you described sounds like a faulty PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater. These little electric auxiliary heaters are supposed to help the engine warm up faster in cold weather, but if they fail, it can cause poor running and higher fuel consumption. Does your blower motor work properly?

Thanks for the quick reply! I think the error code was something like P1613. Where exactly is this PTC heater located? Is it something I could try to fix myself, or am I better off taking it to a shop? I am not very handy.

P1613 confirms the PTC heater fault. The heater is usually located near the blower motor, integrated into the HVAC system. Considering you have no experience with this kind of repairs, I would strongly advise against attempting a DIY repair. Incorrect handling can damage the heating element or the temperature control unit. I recommend taking your 206 to a workshop with experience in HVAC systems.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I took it to my local mechanic and you were spot on – it was the electric auxiliary heater. The whole repair, including the part and labour, came out to be 350€. Runs like a dream now, even when it's freezing outside!
