Peugeot 206 transmission control unit fault

My 2012 Peugeot 206 with a gasoline engine has a transmission issue. Paddle shifters don't work, gear changes are slipping and unclean, grinding noises during shifts, sluggish paddle response, and gearbox is in emergency mode. There's an error code too. Any ideas before I dig in?

Woah, sounds rough! Is it an automatic? I had similar issues on my old beater but it was just low on fluid. Did you check the fluid level and condition? Is it dark or smell burnt?

It's an automatic. Fluid level was the first thing I checked; it's fine and looks clean. Could the car computer controlling the gearbox be the problem?

Okay, if the fluid is fine, it's probably not a simple fix. If the computer is throwing errors and it's shifting weird, that control unit is probably toast. Honestly, sounds like it's time to visit a workshop.

That's what I'm thinking. A diagnostic confirmed the transmission control unit is dead. Repair is estimated at 1000€, including parts and labor. Thanks.
