Peugeot 206 Transmission Issues

My 2001 Peugeot 206 diesel has 129538 km on the clock. The transmission indicator light illuminates intermittently, with the check engine light. The automatic transmission seems to be in emergency mode and doesn't shift as usual; it feels like the gearbox is slipping or shifting uncleanly, and there are grinding noises. I connected an OBD II scanner and found an error stored, but I haven't been able to pinpoint the cause. Could it be a defective cable or plug connection related to the radiator oil pressure, or is it a more significant problem?

Sounds rough. I had a similar problem with my old Renault Megane, although it was the gearbox temp sensor acting up. The symptoms sound eerily alike. Have you checked the radiator coolant level? And the oil cooler, if your 206 has one? Sometimes a small leak can cause havoc with the whole system.

I've checked the radiator coolant level, and it appears normal. I will inspect the oil cooler more closely for leaks or damage. Could you elaborate on the similarities you observed between your Renault Megane's issue and my current predicament? Were the symptoms identical, and did the error codes point to the gearbox temperature sensor in your case?

The symptoms were almost identical. Limp mode, flashing lights, the whole shebang. Error codes were all over the place, not just the temp sensor, which made it a pain to diagnose. Honestly, save yourself the headache and get it to a workshop. Could be something simple, but chasing electrical gremlins is like trying to herd cats.

Based on your experiences and the potential complexity, I took it to a workshop. It turned out to be a defective cable connection, as suspected. The repair cost 95€. Everything is working as expected again.
