Peugeot 207 belt tensioner failure
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Peugeot 207 with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues likely due to a faulty belt tensioner, as indicated by the malfunctioning belt-handover. The problem could also be related to the belt bringer itself. It is suggested to inspect the idler pulley and other components of the belt drive system, especially given the vehicle's high mileage. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed and resolved at a workshop, where the belt tensioner and other worn components were repaired.

I've got 184838 km on the clock. What exactly should I be looking for when checking the idler pulley?

At that mileage, the tensioner is definitely suspect. Given that the belt-handover isn't working, a defective belt bringer/handover is highly probable. It might be best to get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks a bunch! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Bad belt tensioner, plus some wear on other belt drive components. Repair cost me 455€ but at least it's fixed!

Sounds like a likely culprit. Has the idler pulley been checked? Excessive belt squeal can also point to issues within the belt drive system that affect engine performance. How many kilometers on the Peugeot?
