Peugeot 207 engine light and exhaust leak

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2007 Peugeot 207 diesel. The check engine light is on, engine power is reduced, and fuel consumption is higher. I suspect a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. Could an exhaust leak trigger that sensor?

Hey! I had a similar issue with my 207. Check engine light, sluggish performance, the whole shebang. I didn’t check it myself back then, because I barely know a thing about cars.

Thanks for the reply! I based my suspicion on some research online. Several sources pointed to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor causing these exact symptoms, especially if there's a potential exhaust leak throwing off the readings. Did you also have those symptoms? And if yes, how did you figure out the cause, and what was the solution in your case?

Yeah, the symptoms sound very familiar, like almost identical... Honestly, in my case, I just took it straight to the workshop. Didn’t want to mess with it myself and make things worse, haha. Turns out, they found a crack in the exhaust manifold close to the sensor. So, yeah, an exhaust leak messing with the sensor sounds plausible!

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! It really helps to know someone else had something similar. I'll take it to a workshop. Turns out you were spot on, it was a cracked exhaust manifold and faulty sensor. The whole repair set me back 265€, but at least it's running smoothly now!
