Peugeot 207 oil pressure issue

Hi, I have a 2009 Peugeot 207 with a gasoline engine. Mileage is at 219245 km. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp lights up intermittently, and there are loud mechanical noises coming from the engine. I suspect low engine oil pressure. I checked the oil level and viscosity; both seem fine. Could it be the oil pressure sensor or worse, the oil pump?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Peugeot 207 owner reported an intermittent oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises, suspecting low engine oil pressure despite normal oil level and viscosity. Possible causes include a faulty oil pressure sensor or a defective oil pump. Another individual with a similar issue confirmed that a defective oil pump was the cause, suggesting a workshop inspection. The original issue was resolved by replacing the oil pump.

I had a similar issue with my 207. The oil pressure gauge was going crazy. Have you checked the engine bearings?

No, I haven't checked the engine bearings. What were the symptoms in your case, and what was the resolution?

The symptoms were identical. The garage confirmed it was a defect in the oil pump. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop ASAP.

Thanks for the insight. It was indeed the oil pump. Cost me 755€ to repair. Appreciate the help!
