Thanks for the reply! When the fan does run, it sounds a bit louder than usual, almost like it's struggling. As for the diagnostic codes, I don't have an OBD2 scanner myself. I was hoping to avoid a garage visit if it was something simple to check myself, but maybe that's unavoidable?

The loud fan noise suggests it's failing mechanically, possibly with worn bearings. While a speed sensor issue could theoretically interfere, the noise points more directly to the fan motor itself or its control module. Get the codes read. A faulty fan motor will definitely trigger a code. Considering the symptoms, especially the noise, I'd recommend having a mechanic diagnose it properly. Ignoring it could lead to more serious engine damage. Expect around 250€ for a fix.

Okay, I understand. Thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a workshop to get the codes read and have the fan looked at. Sounds like it's best not to risk further damage. I appreciate you confirming my suspicions!

Overheating and the check engine light suggest a cooling system issue. Since you suspect the radiator fan, that's a good place to start. A faulty speed sensor could potentially affect the fan's operation, although it's not the most common cause. Is the fan completely silent, or do you hear any unusual noises when it's supposed to be running? What diagnostic codes are being thrown by the check engine light?
