Peugeot 207 Starting Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Peugeot 207 with a gasoline engine is experiencing intermittent starting issues, particularly when in 'Park', accompanied by a constantly illuminated check engine light and jerky gear shifting. The problem is suspected to be related to a faulty control unit managing the automatic transmission, as indicated by a transmission error from an OBD reader. The suggested solution is to have the control unit diagnosed and repaired by a professional workshop, which was confirmed to be the issue upon further inspection.

Thanks for your quick reply! I tried wiggling the gear shifter, even slamming into Park sometimes, but no luck. Sometimes it starts after a few tries and weird noises, sometimes it just stays stubbornly dead. And no, the engine doesn't crank at all when it refuses to start.

Okay, if it's not cranking at all and the check engine light is on alongside jerky shifting, chances are that the control unit that manages the automatic transmission is indeed faulty. I'd suggest taking it to a reputable workshop for a proper diagnostic. Unfortunately that's not a cheap fix.

Thanks. I took your advice and went to the shop. Turns out you nailed it! Their diagnostics pointed to a defective control unit as well. They quoted me around 1000€ for the repair. Ouch! But at least now I know what needs to be done. Thanks a lot, again!

Sounds rough. Does it happen if you jiggle the gear shifter in park or neutral? Could be a faulty sensor or bad connection on the gear linkage. Does the engine crank at all, or is it completely dead?
