Peugeot 207 Transmission Issues

I'm having a major headache with my 2008 Peugeot 207 (gasoline engine). The transmission warning light keeps popping up, and I've got an error code pointing to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The gearbox is acting up – it slips sometimes, shifts really rough, and there's this awful grinding noise when I change gears. Also, the engine warning light is on. The car has 228591 km on the clock. Does this sound familiar?

Summary of the thread

The 2008 Peugeot 207 is experiencing transmission issues, with warning lights and error codes indicating a problem with the transmission oil pressure sensor. Symptoms include slipping, rough shifting, and grinding noises. A suggested solution is to check and top up the gearbox oil level, as low oil pressure can cause these issues. Ultimately, replacing the faulty oil pressure sensor and changing the transmission oil resolved the problem, restoring smooth operation.

Sounds like a similar issue I had with my 207. Check your gearbox oil level first. A low oil level can cause all those symptoms. It's like trying to run a marathon with barely any water – things are gonna grind to a halt pretty quick.

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly do I check the gearbox oil level on this thing? Is it a dipstick like the engine oil, or is it a bit more involved? Also, would low oil pressure explain all of those symptoms at the same time?

There's no dipstick. You need to remove a plug on the side of the gearbox. If oil starts trickling out, it's full. If nothing comes out, it's low. And yes, low pressure can cause all the symptoms. Still, with those symptoms, you should consider taking it to a workshop.

Thanks a bunch for your help! Your suggestion to check the oil level was spot on. Topped it up and things improved slightly, but as you suggested the damage was already done. Took it to a workshop, and the oil pressure sensor was faulty due to low oil level. New sensor and a transmission oil change set me back 365€, but at least it's running smoothly again!
