Cheers for the reply. Yeah, refrigerant level was the first thing I checked. Seems to be fine. So, if it was the AC control unit in your BMW, what was the eventual fix and how much did it set you back?

Right, refrigerant checked. In my case it was the control unit. Ended up replacing the thing. BMW wanted silly money. A reputable independent charged me a smaller fortune. Given your symptoms and the potential cause, I'd suggest getting it checked at a decent workshop. They can properly diagnose and confirm the control unit before you start spending money.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. The AC control unit was indeed defective. Repair, including parts and labor, came to 980€. Ouch. At least I have cold air again.

Sounds familiar. Had a similar drama with my old BMW 3 Series. Same symptoms – error code, no cold air, system refusing to kick in. In my case it was also related to AC compressor issues, and the diagnosis pointed to the AC control unit. Before diving in too deep, have you checked the refrigerant level?
