Peugeot 208 Anti-theft Alarm Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Peugeot 208 owner experienced issues with the anti-theft alarm system, suspecting a power failure but finding no issues with the fuses. Another person with a similar problem suggested that the alarm system might be incorrectly coded to activate optical locking, causing malfunctions. The solution involved visiting a workshop where the alarm system's parameters were reconfigured using diagnostic tools, resolving the issue without needing to replace any components.

Thanks for the quick reply! Optical locking... interesting. How did you determine that was the root cause, and what steps did you take to resolve it? Did you have to replace any components of the alarm system?

Well, initially, I was stumped, same as you! After a lot of head-scratching, I took it to a workshop with diagnostic tools that could read the specific alarm control module data. The mechanic spotted the optical locking configuration. We didn't replace any parts; it was a simple reconfiguring of the alarm system's parameters through the diagnostic software. Honestly, unless you have access to Peugeot's specific diagnostic tools, it's probably best to visit a mechanic.

Appreciate the advice. After your suggestion, I brought it to the workshop. Turns out, the alarm system was indeed coded to activate optical locking, which was causing the malfunction. They recoded it, and now it's working perfectly. Cost me 45€, not bad! Thanks again!

Hey there! I had a similar problem with my 208 – though I haven't seen mileage like that yet, haha! The symptoms sound very familiar. Was the alarm system perhaps coded to activate the optical locking (indicators)? That was my issue. Basically, the car thinks something is wrong, even when it isn't, triggering the alarm or, in your case, disabling it completely after numerous false triggers. The security alarm gets overloaded.
