Peugeot 208 bumper antenna fault

I have a 2022 Peugeot 208 with a gasoline engine. I'm having a weird issue with what I believe is the bumper antenna. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory, and my unlocking/locking isn't working properly. Also, the engine won't start unless the key is physically in the ignition lock. I've checked the basics, like making sure there's no obvious damage to the antenna mount, but I'm at a loss. Mileage is at 224549 km. Any ideas?

The symptoms you describe, along with the error memory indication, do suggest a potential fault with your bumper antenna system. Has the car been involved in any minor collisions, particularly to the front or rear bumper? The car radio relies on the antenna to get a steady signal, but more importantly, the locking system and the immobilizer are linked and can cause issues if the antenna system is faulty.

No collisions, thankfully. So, are you saying the FM antenna is somehow connected to the keyless entry and the immobilizer on my 208? That sounds really strange. Is there anything I can check myself before taking it to a shop? Perhaps a specific cable or plug connection to look at? I have only a very basic knowledge of car electrics, so please keep it simple!

Indeed. Modern vehicles often integrate multiple systems. The fault could stem from a defective cable or plug connection related to the relevant component. Given your limited experience with car electrics, it would be prudent to seek professional assistance. The diagnostic and repair cost is likely to be in the region of 95€ and the relevant workshop should be able to assist as quickly as possible.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to the shop today, and you were spot on. It was a corroded connector on the bumper antenna. They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of the cable. Everything is working perfectly. Thanks again, I would never have guessed that was the issue!
