Peugeot 208 Coolant Loss

Evening. I've got a 2014 Peugeot 208 (gasoline engine) with 128k km on the clock, and I'm running into a coolant issue. The check engine light keeps popping up, and the error memory's storing low coolant level warnings. Topped it up a few weeks back, but it's dropped again. No visible leaks, engine temp seems normal on the dash, but I'm a bit concerned. Anyone else seen this on a 208? I'm thinking maybe air pockets, but the cooling fan works just fine. I fear engine overheating.

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Peugeot 208 owner is experiencing coolant loss, with the check engine light indicating low coolant levels despite no visible leaks and normal engine temperature. The problem might be due to air pockets, but a similar case revealed a tiny leak near the water pump. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle professionally inspected, which led to discovering a slow leak at a hose connection, resolved with a new clamp and coolant top-up.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 208. Same symptoms – check engine light, low coolant warnings. I was also scratching my head trying to find a leak, but couldn't see anything obvious. Was the coolant loss gradual, or did it happen quite quickly?

Thanks for the reply! It's been pretty gradual, I'd say. Like, a noticeable drop every week or so, needing maybe half a liter to top it off. Did you ever notice any weird smells or any staining around the engine?

Yep, the loss was pretty similar. I never pinpointed any smells or staining, but it was definitely disappearing. In my case, I ended up just taking it to a workshop. They found a tiny leak near the water pump that I couldn't spot myself. I'd recommend getting it checked out professionally, just to be on the safe side.

Appreciate the advice. Sounds like that's the way to go. Dropped it off at the shop this morning, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a slow leak at one of the hose connections. New clamp and a top-up, cost me 52€. Thanks again for the help!
