Peugeot 208 diesel power loss and smoke

I'm having trouble with my 2021 Peugeot 208 diesel. It's got about 135k kilometers on it. Recently, I've noticed a significant drop in engine power, especially when going uphill. Also, there's a fair amount of smoke coming out the back when I accelerate. I've checked the usual suspects – oil levels, coolant, etc. – but everything seems normal. Could this be related to the diesel particulate filter? I've read a bit about DPF issues, but I'm not sure where to start. I've tried driving it at higher speeds to try and force a regeneration, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my 208. Same symptoms, loss of power and smoke. Have you noticed any changes in your fuel efficiency recently? It could indeed be the DPF. Modern diesels are sensitive, and a faulty sensor could be preventing proper regeneration.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, actually, my fuel efficiency has taken a noticeable hit lately. It's like the car is working much harder to achieve the same speeds. You mentioned a faulty sensor – is there any way to check that myself, or is it something that requires specialized equipment? And if it is the DPF, is cleaning an option, or am I looking at a replacement?

Given the fuel efficiency drop, it strengthens the DPF suspicion. Unfortunately, sensor diagnostics often require specific tools. While DPF cleaning is an option, its success depends on the filter's condition. The garage will be able to check this for you with the right equipment. A DPF blockage is like a clogged artery for your engine.

Okay, I understand. Sounds like it's best to take it to a workshop and have them run some proper diagnostics. I was hoping it would be something simple, but the fuel efficiency issue points to something more serious. I took it to the shop and they said it's a defective DPF; repair cost 1550€. Thanks for the advice!
