Peugeot 208 Gear Shift Issues

I am gutted! My 2021 Peugeot 208 diesel is playing up. Only done 59006 km. The gear shift indicator is completely useless – a total blank! It's not possible to engage the gears, the automatic transmission shifts like a drunk, gearbox slips like crazy, and makes awful grinding noises. The speedometer gear display doesn't work at all, plus there's an error stored. Any ideas before I lose it completely?

Sounds familiar. I've got a 208, though I can't remember the exact year. Had similar weirdness with the gear selector. Was it completely dead, or just showing the wrong gear sometimes?

Thanks! When you say 'similar weirdness', do you mean all of my symptoms? Because it's the whole shooting match – display is blank, so it's like driving blind. Did yours also throw up an error code?

Ah, when my gear selector went bonkers, it was mostly showing incorrect gears, but the error code and dodgy shifting were definitely there. It sounds like yours has gone kaput completely, like the control unit is fried. If I were you, I'd bite the bullet and get it to a workshop. These newer cars are too complicated to fiddle with yourself.

Workshop confirmed it: affected control unit defective. They're quoting 1000€ for the repair. Ouch! At least I know what's up, thanks to you pointing me in the right direction.
