Peugeot 208 injection system faulty

Hi, I'm experiencing an issue with my 2012 Peugeot 208, diesel engine, with about 61071 km on the clock. The 'injection system faulty' warning light is on. The car seems to be drinking fuel like crazy – higher fuel consumption than usual – and the engine power feels significantly reduced, especially uphill. Sometimes, it even stalls when idling, which is quite worrying. Also, there's a puff of smoke when I accelerate. I've checked the air filter, which seems fine, and had a quick look at some engine components, but I'm no expert and didn't want to mess anything up. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection is the issue. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Renault Megane, although it's a different brand. 'Injection system faulty' can be tricky. Given the symptoms you describe, it could indeed be a faulty connection. Check the connectors to the injectors and the fuel rail pressure sensor. See if any are loose or corroded. If the sensor doesn't properly measure the fuel pressure, the injection system cannot perform correctly, and the air-fuel mixture is not optimal. However, without proper diagnostic tools, it's hard to pinpoint the exact cause.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'connectors to the injectors', are these easy to locate? I am not very experienced, so what does 'fuel rail pressure sensor' mean and where can I find this component in my car?

The injector connectors are directly on top of each of the injectors, which feed fuel into the engine. The fuel rail pressure sensor measures the pressure of the fuel in the fuel rail (the pipe that distributes fuel to the injectors). It's usually attached to the fuel rail itself. Given your concerns and lack of experience, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and have the right tools to fix it.

Thanks so much for the advice and explanations! I took it to the workshop as you suggested. Turns out it was indeed a defective plug connection, as I had initially suspected, leading to the injection system errors. The repair cost me 95€. Hopefully, that's the end of it!
