Thanks for the advice. How would I go about doing a system reset on the Peugeot? Is it something I can do myself, or am I better off taking it to a mechanic?

A system reset usually involves navigating through the car's infotainment menus. Refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions for your 2016 208. But, if the problem persists and you're uncomfortable doing it yourself, visiting a workshop might be a good idea. They can diagnose it more thoroughly with specialized tools. The error memory might give them a clue to the root cause of the problem. Also, an ignition system malfunction can also cause similar issues, if the car is not properly recognizing devices because of system unstability.

Appreciate the help. Ended up taking it to the workshop. Turns out it was a software issue, as you suggested. They re-paired my phone and cleared the error memory. Cost me 45€.

That sounds like a software glitch, possibly related to the infotainment system. These systems are complex and prone to bugs. The error memory storing something is a key clue. Have you tried any basic troubleshooting steps, like a system reset or checking for software releases? Sometimes, a simple reset can clear out faulty data. If it's incorrect pairing, have you checked if there are new releases to your smartphone's OS, because this could lead to incompatibility?
