Peugeot 208 Whistling Hissing Noise
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Peugeot 208 is experiencing issues such as a check engine light, low power, poor throttle response, a whistling noise that becomes a loud hiss during acceleration, stalling at idle, and high fuel consumption. The suspected cause is a boost pressure actuator fault. A suggestion was made to check for a defective electrical bypass valve, which was confirmed by a professional inspection. Replacing the valve resolved the issues, restoring the car's performance.

A defective electrical bypass valve, you say? Where exactly is that located, and how difficult was it to fix on your Astra?

Yeah, that's what it was. Honestly, I'm no mechanic. I'd say get it checked professionally, especially if you're getting stalling issues. Could be other things playing up too. Better safe than sorry with turbo systems.

Cheers for the advice. Took it to a shop, and you were spot on – defective electrical bypass valve. New part and labor came to 250€. Running like a champ now!

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my old Vauxhall Astra. Turned out to be a defective electrical bypass valve. Have you checked for any boost leaks? That whistling/hissing is a classic sign.
