Peugeot 3008 Battery Sensor Issue

I've got a 2019 Peugeot 3008 diesel with 246621 km on the clock, and the battery is constantly flat. I'm getting error messages, flickering lights, and a full error memory. The battery is also weak when I try to start the engine. I suspect a defective battery sensor, but I'm open to suggestions. Has anyone else experienced this Peugeot battery issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Peugeot 3008 diesel with high mileage is experiencing a constantly flat battery, error messages, flickering lights, and a weak start, leading to the suspicion of a defective battery sensor. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by identifying a faulty Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) that caused battery drainage. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed at a workshop to confirm the issue and avoid unnecessary part replacements. The problem was confirmed to be the battery sensor, and the repair restored normal vehicle function.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my 2016 Opel Astra. Constant low battery warnings, weird electrical issues popping up. I initially suspected the alternator, but it turned out to be a faulty battery sensor constantly draining the battery. Have you checked the battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections? Also, have you had the battery charging system tested?

Thanks for the quick reply! Corrosion is minimal, and the connections seem tight. I haven't had the charging system properly tested, just a quick voltage check with a multimeter, which seemed okay-ish. When you say 'battery sensor', are we talking about the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor), or something else? How did you eventually diagnose it?

Yep, I'm talking about the IBS. My mechanic plugged in his fancy diagnostic tool, and it showed the IBS was reporting wildly inaccurate data, causing the car to overcharge and then drain the battery. Honestly, unless you've got access to proper diagnostic gear, it's a pain to pinpoint. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and save you from randomly replacing parts.

Okay, that's the confirmation I needed. Workshop it is! Thanks a million for sharing your experience. It WAS the battery sensor, just like we thought! Cost me 315€ to get it sorted, but at least the Peugeot's back on the road and the disco lights are gone. Cheers!
