Peugeot 3008 brake fluid low pedal feedback

Hello, I have a 2017 Peugeot 3008 with a gasoline engine. Recently, the brake fluid warning light illuminated. The level was indeed low. I refilled it, but now I'm getting strange feedback from the brake pedal. I've checked for obvious leaks, but found none. The car has 295610 km on it. What could be the issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Peugeot 3008 owner experienced a low brake fluid warning and unusual brake pedal feedback. The issue was likely caused by worn brake pads, which can lead to increased brake fluid usage as the caliper pistons extend further to maintain contact with the rotors. It was advised to inspect the brake pads, rotors, and brake lines for wear or damage. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be worn brakes, and a repair was scheduled.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Good day. I experienced a similar issue with my 3008. A low brake fluid level, coupled with unusual pedal feedback, often suggests worn brake pads. As the pads wear thin, the pistons in the calipers extend further to maintain contact with the rotors. This increased extension requires more brake fluid, which can lower the level in the reservoir and trigger the warning light. Have you checked the condition of your brake pads and rotors? What about the brake lines? Any sign of bulging or corrosion?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the pads and rotors closely yet, only visually, and they seemed okay at a glance. How quickly does brake fluid disappear with worn pads? It seems like quite a bit is missing.

While a visual inspection might show some pad life, it's difficult to assess remaining thickness accurately without removing the wheels and measuring the pads. Brake fluid loss due to worn pads is gradual, but over time, it can become significant enough to trigger the warning. Given the symptoms and mileage, I'd strongly recommend a thorough inspection of the entire brake system by a qualified technician. It could be something simple like pads, but it's best to rule out other potential problems like a failing master cylinder or leaks in the lines. Do not delay further, for your own safety!

Okay, thanks for the detailed advice. I'll book it in for a proper inspection at the workshop. It turned out to be worn brakes, as you suggested. Repair cost: 480€
