Thanks for the tip! The error is intermittent. I haven't checked the fuses or the switch connection, to be honest. Where exactly is the brake switch located? Is it easy to access?

Given the intermittent nature, a loose connection is quite plausible. Typically, the brake switch is located near the brake pedal assembly, under the dashboard. However, accessing it can vary depending on the vehicle's design. I would suggest checking the owner's manual for a diagram or consulting a professional to avoid any unintended damage. It's better to be safe than sorry when dealing with vehicle safety systems.

You were right, the connector on the switch wasn't seated correctly! I pushed it back in, and the error is gone, and the brake lights work fine. Thanks for your help; I saved myself a trip to the shop!

Hello, I experienced a similar issue with my 2018 Volvo V60. The error memory indicated a fault with the automotive switch related to the tail light. Is the error message consistent, or does it appear intermittently? Have you checked the fuse box for any blown fuses related to the brake light circuit, or perhaps a loose connection at the brake switch itself? This might be a simple check before assuming a faulty brake switch.
