Peugeot 3008 Incorrect Fuel Composition Error

Hi, I'm experiencing some issues with my 2011 Peugeot 3008 hybrid, mileage at 215998 km. The check engine light comes on intermittently, and the engine occasionally stalls at idle. I scanned the error memory and it points towards an incorrect fuel composition. I've checked the fuel cap, looked for any obvious leaks, and even tried a fuel system cleaner, but the problem persists. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Peugeot 3008 hybrid with 215998 km is experiencing intermittent check engine light activation and occasional stalling at idle, with an error indicating incorrect fuel composition. Initial checks for leaks and use of a fuel system cleaner did not resolve the issue. Suggestions included checking for fuel contamination, a faulty fuel filter, or electrical issues. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a defective cable connection, which was repaired at a workshop, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, that sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although it was a petrol engine. The check engine light kept popping up, and the car felt rough, especially when idling. Have you considered the possibility of fuel contamination or a faulty fuel filter? Maybe even bad fuel?

Thanks for the input! I haven't specifically checked the fuel filter yet, that's a good point. Could a clogged filter really cause the 'incorrect fuel composition' error? I was leaning more towards a sensor issue or something electrical. Also, what error code did you get on your Astra?

Yeah, on the Astra the error was something about the fuel mixture being off. Replacing the fuel filter helped a bit but didn't completely solve it. In the end, the workshop found a defective cable or plug connection. Given your hybrid engine, it could be a more complex electrical issue. I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed before throwing more parts at it.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's really helpful to hear a similar story. I took your advice and brought it to a workshop. Turns out, it was indeed a defective cable connection, just as you suspected. The repair cost me 95€. Problem solved!
