Peugeot 3008 Intake Manifold Issue

My 2014 Peugeot 3008 diesel jerks when accelerating, check engine light is on, engine power is reduced, and it sometimes stalls. The engine runs rough and there's a strong exhaust smell. OBD scanner suggests an intake manifold issue. Could a scorched, leaking intake manifold be the problem, causing a vacuum leak or issues with the manifold sensor or air intake?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Peugeot 3008 diesel exhibited symptoms such as jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, reduced engine power, stalling, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell. An OBD scanner indicated a potential intake manifold issue, possibly due to a scorched or leaking manifold causing a vacuum leak or problems with the manifold sensor or air intake. The suggested solution involved checking for hissing sounds and visually inspecting for cracks or leaks around the manifold. Ultimately, a mechanic confirmed the intake manifold was defective, and the issue was resolved through repair.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my old Opel Astra, though it was a petrol engine. Check for any hissing sounds around the manifold – that could be a sign of a gasket leak. Might be worth a quick visual inspection before diving too deep.

Thanks! When you mention 'hissing sounds,' is that easily discernible, even with the engine running? And when you say 'visual inspection,' what exactly should I be looking for? Any specific areas or components that are more prone to failure or leakage? I want to be as thorough as possible before taking it in.

Yeah, you should be able to hear it, even with the engine running, but it might be faint. Visually, look for any cracks, scorching, or oily residue around the manifold and where it connects to the engine. Honestly, with those symptoms and the mileage, I'd just take it to a workshop. Sounds like a proper intake manifold issue.

Thanks so much for your advice! I took your suggestion and brought my Peugeot to a trusted mechanic. It turned out that the intake manifold was indeed defective, with clear signs of scorching and leakage. The repair, including parts and labor, amounted to 1180€. While it was an unwelcome expense, I'm relieved to have the issue resolved. Your insights were incredibly helpful!
