Peugeot 3008 Oil Pressure Warning

Hi, I've got a 2017 Peugeot 3008, gasoline engine, with about 188k kilometers on it. Lately, a warning light pops up on the speedometer, and the oil pressure lamp illuminates. Could this be related to oil contamination? I've checked the oil level, and it seems fine, but I haven't really looked at the oil color itself.

Greetings. The symptoms you describe, coupled with the mileage, strongly suggest the possibility of oil contamination. Several factors can contribute to this. Primarily, exceeding the maintenance interval allows combustion byproducts and wear metals to accumulate in the oil. The color of the oil is a good initial indicator; excessively dark or sludgy oil confirms contamination. Consider this: engine oil is like the blood of your engine. Over time, it gets 'dirty' and loses its ability to protect vital components. Has there been any noticeable change in engine performance or unusual noises?

Thanks for the quick reply. Engine performance seems normal, no strange noises. What kind of engine damage could contaminated oil cause? Also, are oil additives effective in cleaning the oil, or is it just marketing hype?

Continued use of contaminated oil can lead to significant engine damage. Think of oil sludge as sandpaper circulating through your engine; it accelerates wear on bearings, cylinder walls, and other critical surfaces. Regarding oil additives: while some may offer marginal benefits, they are generally a temporary solution. A proper oil change with a high-quality filter is always the best course of action. Considering the warning lights and mileage, I strongly advise having a qualified mechanic inspect your Peugeot's engine. Further driving might cause additional harm.

Thanks, that's really helpful. Took it to the workshop, and it turned out the maintenance interval was indeed exceeded. They changed the oil and filter, and the warning lights are gone. Cost me 165€. Appreciate the advice!
