Peugeot 3008 Steering Heavy and Shaky

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2017 Peugeot 3008 diesel. It's got 96032 km on the clock. Recently, the steering requires significantly more effort, like the power steering is failing intermittently. I'm also getting noticeable vibrations through the steering wheel. I've read online and suspect it might be the steering angle sensor. Could faulty coding be the culprit? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Peugeot 3008 is experiencing heavy and shaky steering, suggesting potential power steering failure. The issue might be linked to a faulty steering angle sensor or incorrect coding. A similar case was resolved by checking wheel alignment and replacing the sensor, which improved the steering performance. It is recommended to inspect the alignment and consider sensor replacement if the problem persists.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Steering issues are never fun. I've got a 3008 myself. I had something vaguely similar happen a while back – the steering felt a bit heavier than usual and the wheel shook a little. I never looked at the steering angle sensor, but maybe it's the same thing? Did the alignment get checked yet?

Thanks for the reply! I haven't had the alignment checked yet, no. That's a good point. So, when you say "vaguely similar," was it constant, or did it come and go? And did checking the wheel alignment fix it, or was there something else?

Okay, so for me it was intermittent. It would be fine most of the time, then suddenly get a bit heavy and shaky for a little while, then go back to normal. Lasted for about a week. I thought it was the steering column at the beginning. I went to a workshop, and they told me it would probably be better to replace the sensor. That fixed the alignment problems.

Thanks so much for the info. I appreciate you sharing your experience. It sounds like I should definitely get the alignment checked and maybe look at replacing the sensor if that doesn't fix it. I'm heading to the workshop tomorrow. The final repair came to 195€. Thanks again!
