Peugeot 301 check engine light and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Peugeot 301 diesel exhibited an intermittent 'check engine' light and occasional stalling at idle, with diagnostics indicating an error related to incorrect fuel composition. The problem was suspected to be either a fuel quality issue or something more serious. A similar past experience suggested checking the fuel system wiring, leading to the discovery of a defective plug connection, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

I haven't tried any fuel additives yet, and the fuel filter was replaced during the last service. I can't hear any unusual engine knock. Could you please elaborate on the 'weirdness' you experienced? Was the error message related to the fuel system?

Okay, so the fuel filter is new, that's good. By 'weirdness,' I mean exactly what you're describing: check engine light, rough idling, and even some hesitation during acceleration. Mine turned out to be a faulty connector in the fuel system wiring causing intermittent incorrect readings. A workshop diagnosed it eventually. Since you already see that error, maybe it's best to get it checked? In my case, the fuel additives did not help and were a waste of money, for me it pointed directly to the workshop

I appreciate you confirming your experience. Based on your advice, I booked an appointment with my trusted mechanic. The diagnostic confirmed a defective plug connection, as suspected. Repair cost was 95€, and it seems that the issue is solved. Thank you again for your help!

I had a similar issue with my Peugeot 301 (don't remember the year). The check engine light and occasional stalling sound very familiar. Have you tried any fuel additives or checked the fuel filter? It might be worth investigating those before assuming the worst. I once had a really bad batch of fuel that caused all sorts of weirdness. Also, any engine knock?
