Peugeot 301 power steering vibration

Alright Peugeot gurus, I’ve got a head-scratcher. My 2020 Peugeot 301 diesel is throwing a fit with the power steering at 116320 km. Wheel's vibrating like crazy, handling's gone all spongy, and the error memory's full of complaints. Feels like I'm wrestling a truck when I try to turn the wheel sometimes! I've had a quick look, but before I start tearing things apart, anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Peugeot 301 diesel is experiencing severe power steering vibration and handling issues at 116,320 km, accompanied by error codes. The problem is suspected to be related to the power steering system, with potential causes including hydraulic fluid issues or defective connections. A similar case was resolved by addressing a defective cable or plug connection at a workshop, which is suggested as the best course of action to avoid further complications.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue in my 301. The symptoms you're describing, especially the vibration and the increased effort, sound like classic power steering problems. Have you checked the simple things like the hydraulic fluid level and for any obvious leaks around the pressure hose and steering pump?

Good shout! Fluid level's spot on, and no obvious leaks that I can see. But you mentioned similar – was yours exactly the same, with the error codes and everything? And did you manage to sort it yourself, or did it end up needing a visit to the shop?

Yeah, mine threw up error codes too – can't remember the exact ones, but they pointed to the power steering system. I spent ages fiddling, checking connections, but honestly, I ended up biting the bullet and taking it to a workshop. They found a defective cable or plug connection. Saved me a lot of time and potential headaches!

Right, that's the confirmation I needed. Looks like I'll be booking it in then! Thanks for the pointer – at least I've got an idea of what to expect. Just got the car back – defective cable. Total cost, including labour, came to 95€ Thanks again!
