Peugeot 301 transmission fault

I'm new here. I have a 2020 Peugeot 301 with a diesel engine and I'm having some serious transmission issues. The car has only done 25170 km. The engine warning light keeps coming on, and sometimes a transmission warning light appears too. I scanned the error memory and it shows a fault with the transmission oil temperature sensor. When driving, the gearbox sometimes goes into emergency mode, which is scary! I've also noticed the gearbox slips and shifts uncleanly, and there are occasional grinding noises when shifting gears. Could this be linked to low transmission oil? Any ideas?

I own a Peugeot 301 myself, and I experienced similar problems. The symptoms you describe, such as the warning lights and the odd shifting behaviour, may indicate a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, or low transmission oil level. When the oil level is low, the sensor might give faulty readings, leading to emergency mode and shifting issues. The automatic transmission relies on precise oil pressure and temperature for smooth operation, so any deviation can cause problems.

That's interesting. Did you also experience grinding noises along with the other symptoms? And did you replace the transmission oil temperature sensor, or was the low transmission oil the main culprit?

Yes, I did hear grinding noises, especially during upshifts. After conducting a full inspection in the workshop, the mechanics revealed that the gearbox oil level in my car was too low, causing all sorts of sensor misreadings. Although, I recommend having your vehicle looked at in a workshop for professional assessment.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local shop and you were right, the gearbox oil level was way too low. They topped it up after searching for leaks - and replaced the transmission oil temperature sensor as precaution. All in, it cost me 365€, including parts and labor. Runs like new now!
