Peugeot 307 Coolant Loss

Hi, I have a 2009 Peugeot 307 with a gasoline engine and about 251k km. The check engine light is on, and I saw an error related to the engine temperature. The coolant level is way too low. I don't see any obvious leaks, and the temperature gauge seems normal. Anyone experienced something similar?

Hey, I had a similar issue with my 307. Check the radiator hoses, radiator cap, and water pump for any signs of weeping. Is the cooling fan working? You might also want to check for any white smoke from the exhaust, could be a head gasket issue.

Thanks! I'll check the hoses and cap. The fan seems to be working fine. How can I check the water pump other than looking for leaks? And if it was the head gasket, wouldn't I see other symptoms like oil in the coolant or overheating?

Yeah, usually you'd see other symptoms with a head gasket issue. For the water pump, besides looking for leaks, you can try wiggling the pulley to see if there's any play, which could indicate a worn bearing. Given the age and mileage, it could be a few things. If you're not comfortable, get it pressure tested at a trusted workshop. They'll be able to pinpoint the leak.

Thanks, that's great advice. I checked the water pump pulley, and there's a little play. I brought it to a workshop. They found a small leak at the water pump and replaced it. Cost me 52€ including parts and labor. Thanks for the help!
