Peugeot 307 Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Peugeot 307 owner reported a coolant loss issue, with the check engine light on and an error related to engine temperature, despite no visible leaks and a normal temperature gauge. Possible causes suggested included radiator hose issues, a faulty radiator cap, or a water pump problem. A head gasket issue was also considered but deemed less likely due to the absence of other symptoms. The solution involved checking the water pump, which revealed a small leak, leading to its replacement at a workshop.

Thanks! I'll check the hoses and cap. The fan seems to be working fine. How can I check the water pump other than looking for leaks? And if it was the head gasket, wouldn't I see other symptoms like oil in the coolant or overheating?

Yeah, usually you'd see other symptoms with a head gasket issue. For the water pump, besides looking for leaks, you can try wiggling the pulley to see if there's any play, which could indicate a worn bearing. Given the age and mileage, it could be a few things. If you're not comfortable, get it pressure tested at a trusted workshop. They'll be able to pinpoint the leak.

Thanks, that's great advice. I checked the water pump pulley, and there's a little play. I brought it to a workshop. They found a small leak at the water pump and replaced it. Cost me 52€ including parts and labor. Thanks for the help!

Hey, I had a similar issue with my 307. Check the radiator hoses, radiator cap, and water pump for any signs of weeping. Is the cooling fan working? You might also want to check for any white smoke from the exhaust, could be a head gasket issue.
