Thanks! Could you explain how you assessed the fuel injector spray pattern? I have diagnostic tools and want to evaluate before replacing the injectors. Did your Astra have any other symptoms before the injector failure, like increased fuel consumption or hard starting?

I did a basic check by removing each injector and watching the spray pattern while the engine was running (briefly and carefully!). It's messy and not precise. I'd recommend professional injector cleaning and testing. Increased fuel consumption and hard starting were present, but subtle at first. Given your knowledge, you might check yourself, but I took it to a workshop. They pinpointed a malfunctioning injector. Save time and misdiagnosis, visit a trusted mechanic.

I appreciate the advice. I've decided to consult a workshop for a diagnostic assessment. The potential for misdiagnosis and the fuel injection system's complexity warrant it. The mechanic confirmed a defective fuel injector requiring replacement. The total cost, including parts and labor, was 515€. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Your input helped my decision.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, though it was a petrol engine. Reduced power, engine light, rough running sound familiar. It was a faulty fuel injector. Have you checked the spray pattern of your injectors? A blocked or poorly spraying injector can cause a lean running condition. Also, check the fuel pump to ensure it's delivering enough pressure.
