A vacuum leak, you say? I haven't specifically checked for that. Where exactly should I be looking for it? Is this something I can easily spot myself, or am I better off leaving it to a professional?

I am not entirely sure about what you can see yourself. However, I also tried to find a vacuum leak but couldn't find one. I had the same symptoms you describe, and in the end, the EGR valve was defective. To be safe, I would recommend visiting a trusted workshop. They can perform a proper diagnosis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot-on! Turns out the EGR valve was indeed defective. The repair cost me 355€. Hopefully, this resolves the issue.

I had a similar experience with my 307. Reduced power, check engine light…sounds familiar. Smoke and hissing, though? Did you notice any vacuum leaks or unusual smells? Is your catalytic converter working correctly? That much smoke could point to recirculation issues.
