Peugeot 307 engine jerking uneven running

My 2005 Peugeot 307 with a gasoline engine is running unevenly and hesitating at 226806 km. The check engine light is on, error memory has a fault stored, and the car jerks when accelerating. I've checked the spark plugs, which seem fine. Could this be a timing belt or oxygen sensor issue?

I also drive a 307, and that sounds like an issue I had. Did you check for exhaust system leaks? A small leak can cause rough idle and engine misfires.

An exhaust leak? Where should I look? Would that cause the check engine light and jerking?

Yes, absolutely! Mine was a small crack near a joint. The check engine light came on, and the jerking was pronounced during acceleration. Unless you have a smoke tester, take it to a workshop. They can pinpoint the leak and give you a proper diagnosis.

I took your suggestion and brought it to a workshop. There was a leak in the exhaust system. Repairing it cost 265€, but now the engine runs smoothly. I appreciate your help!
