Thanks for the swift response. I have checked the transfer fluid level, and it seems okay. I haven't assessed the oil itself, though. What specific characteristics should I be looking for when examining the oil, such as consistency, color, or presence of metallic particles?

Yeah, metallic particles are a huge red flag, man. Mine looked like it had glitter in it, seriously! If you see anything like that, it's probably too late for just an oil change. Honestly, if the fluid looks bad and it's shifting rough, get it checked by a workshop. Could save you a lot of money in the long run before more stuff breaks.

Thanks for the guidance. I consulted with a trusted mechanic, who confirmed significant mechanical wear within the transfer case. The repair, including parts and labor, was about 330€. While the expense wasn't insignificant, I'm relieved to have addressed it before it escalated. Your insights were instrumental in facilitating a timely and effective resolution.

Hey! Sounds frustrating. I had something similar happen with my old Volvo, though not exactly the same. My gears were slipping all over the place. Have you checked the transfer fluid level? Might be a simple fix, though with those symptoms, gear wear could definitely be the culprit. I ended up needing a new transfer case. What does the old oil look like?
