Peugeot 307 oil pressure warning light

My 2004 Peugeot 307 diesel is showing the oil pressure warning light, and there's a terrible racket coming from the engine. Mileage is 178625 km. Could this be a clogged oil filter, or maybe a faulty oil pressure sensor? I really hope it's not serious!

Sounds rough. I had something similar with my 307. Check for any oil leakage first, but those noises don't sound good. Could be engine bearings, but my gut feeling says it might be the oil pump failing. Has the car been regularly serviced?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any oil leakage, and yes, it's been regularly serviced. How did you figure out it was the oil pump in your case? What were the exact symptoms? Was it expensive to fix?

The symptoms were exactly the same - oil pressure light and awful noises. I tried changing the oil and filter, but no luck. Eventually, the workshop confirmed it was the oil pump. Best get it checked professionally before you cause more damage. In my case, the whole repair was around 755€.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. I really appreciate the help!
