Peugeot 307 Overheating Check Engine Light

I have a 2002 Peugeot 307 diesel. The engine is overheating and the check engine light is on. I thought it was the thermal switch, but the radiator fan isn't working. The car has about 14565 km on it. Any ideas?

Hey, overheating and a check engine light? Sounds rough. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, but it turned out to be a dodgy speed sensor messing with the whole cooling system. Did you notice any weird fan noise before this started? Or maybe the fan is running at the wrong speed, or not at all?

I haven't heard any unusual noise from the fan, and I haven't seen it running at the wrong speed. How is the speed sensor related to the cooling system? I don't see the connection. Could the fan motor be bad? Are there any error codes?

Yeah, it was a weird one! The speed sensor on my Astra was feeding the ECU wrong info, which then messed with the radiator fan's operation. The computer thought the car was standing still, so it didn't kick the fan on properly, even though the engine was cooking. It might not be exactly the same issue with your Peugeot, but I'd say it's worth getting it checked out by a workshop.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll take the car to a technician for a diagnostic. The estimated repair cost is 250€. I will post the solution when it's fixed.
