Peugeot 307 Steering Problem

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2004 Peugeot 307 diesel. At approximately 20010 km, the steering has become problematic. It requires increased effort, suggestive of power steering failure, and the steering wheel is vibrating. Could a defective steering angle sensor be responsible, potentially impacting the electronic stability program?

That does sound concerning. Is the shaking constant, or only at certain speeds? Faulty steering angle sensors can definitely mess with the power steering and stability control. Ever had any alignment problems or work done on the steering column recently? A bad sensor could definitely cause those symptoms, but I wonder if there could be something else going on. I guess you already checked the power steering fluid, right?

The shaking seems more pronounced at lower speeds. No recent work has been done on the steering column, and the alignment seems fine. The power steering fluid level is normal. If the coding of the steering angle sensor were faulty, would that reliably produce these symptoms, or might there be other tell-tale signs I should be looking for?

Ah, low speed shaking... combined with everything else you described, yeah, I'm leaning pretty heavily toward the steering angle sensor being the culprit. If the coding is off, it would definitely confuse the car's systems and cause the symptoms you mentioned. While it could be something else, honestly, it sounds like you've narrowed it down pretty well. Probably best to get it checked at a workshop. They can read the fault codes and confirm the sensor's the issue.

Based on the discussion, I had the vehicle inspected. The diagnostic confirmed a defective steering angle sensor. Repair and recalibration, including parts and labor, amounted to 195€. Your insights were helpful in guiding the diagnostic process.
