Peugeot 307 Transmission Fault

My 2009 Peugeot 307, diesel engine, with 76815 km is throwing a hissy fit. The engine warning light is on and it logged a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The gearbox occasionally throws itself into limp mode, sometimes slips when shifting, and I've even heard some nasty grinding noises. Could a low gearbox oil level really be the culprit?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms in my 307. Worth checking the oil level first, it's an easy check.

Easy check, you say? Did you have the same oil pressure sensor fault code? And did topping up the oil actually fix it for you?

Yeah, the same fault code. Topping up didn't solve it permanently, just masked it for a while. Turned out the sensor itself was faulty, but low oil definitely contributed. Get it checked out properly.

Cheers. I bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. You were spot on – oil was low and the sensor was goosed. New sensor and gearbox oil change later, and she's running smooth. Cost me 365€, but worth it for the peace of mind!
