Peugeot 307 Transmission Issues

My 2001 Peugeot 307 with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. It's got 246650 km on the clock. The check engine light and transmission indicator light are both on. The gearbox is slipping and shifting horribly, with grinding noises. Plugged it in and there's an error stored in the memory. I'm fearing the worst, could it be the automatic transmission converter?

Sounds like a converter fault, alright. Is the engine surging at all at steady speeds?

Now that you mention it, there is a slight engine surge at highway speeds. Could that be related to the torque converter lock-up clutch?

Yep, that engine surge seals it. The torque converter lock-up clutch is likely defective. Needs a transmission repair – time to visit a workshop.

Thanks, I appreciate the confirmation. I took it to the shop. You were spot on; the automatic transmission converter was indeed defective. Repair cost me 2120€, ouch! At least it's running smoothly again.
