Peugeot 308 automatic gearbox issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Peugeot 308 with an electric engine is experiencing issues with the automatic gearbox, including gear slipping, grinding noises, and slow paddle shifters. The gearbox is stuck in emergency mode, and the error memory is full of warnings, suggesting a defective transmission control unit (TCU). After reading the error codes, it was confirmed that the TCU was the problem, leading to its replacement, which resolved the issue.

Yeah, I read the codes. It's definitely pointing towards a defective transmission control unit. I'm just wondering if it's a common problem, or if there's anything else I should check before I bite the bullet and replace the whole thing.

Ah, if the codes are clear on the TCU, then it sounds like that's your culprit. With the Volvo, I ended up having to replace the whole module. Not much you can do yourself unfortunately. Best bet is to get it to a workshop you trust.

Appreciate the input. Ended up taking it to the shop. They confirmed the control unit was toast. 1000€ later, it's shifting smoothly again. Nightmare!

Sounds rough. I had similar symptoms on my old Volvo V60 – although it was a petrol engine. Gearbox would randomly go into limp mode. Have you had the error codes read? That's where I'd start.
