Peugeot 308 Diesel: Irregularities with engine, ABS, lights and battery

Hey guys! Some symptoms in my Peugeot 308 Diesel (2015, mileage 106,190 km) are making me wonder. Engine switches off by itself, ABS stutters, lanterns flicker and the battery is dying. I suspect generator problems. Have any of you experienced similar problems with your car or have a good mechanic to hand? My last visit to the garage was really bad. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Summary of the thread

A Peugeot 308 Diesel is experiencing issues with the engine shutting off, ABS stuttering, flickering lights, and a dying battery. These symptoms suggest potential generator problems, but a similar case with a Peugeot 3008 pointed to a faulty engine control unit as the cause. Replacing the engine control unit resolved the issues in the 3008, and it is recommended to consider this as a possible solution for the 308.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I recently had a similar problem with my Peugeot 3008 (2012). It was a faulty engine control unit. It's a serious problem as it controls many processes in your car. The symptoms sound similar: engine problems, flickering lights, dysfunctional ABS... Your symptom of the engine switching itself off could also indicate this. At that time, the control unit had to be replaced. It is quite possible that your Peugeot 308 has the same problem. Communicate this to your mechanic. Good luck, hopefully it's something less serious.

Hey, thanks for the tip! Well that's a thing, sounds pretty much like the problems I'm having. Do you remember how much it cost to replace the engine control unit back then? And have you had similar problems since then or did the repair fix everything? Hopefully it's nothing worse with my 308...

Hey, no problem! It cost me about €1000 to replace the engine control unit back then. Pretty steep, I know, but since the visit to the mechanic, the problem with the alternator has been fixed, so it was definitely worth it. I haven't had any similar problems since, the car runs really well. I hope it's just that with your 308 and nothing more serious. Let me know how it goes!

Wow, that's not so cheap. But if it solves the problems, I think it would definitely be worth the investment. I'll definitely suggest this to my mechanic and hopefully he'll find the solution. It's reassuring to know that your car has been running well since then. I hope I can say the same for my 308 soon. Thanks again for your advice. I'll let you know how it goes!
