Thanks for the quick reply! The smoke does have a bit of a strange smell, yes. How did you resolve the issue with your Opel? Did you try any engine tuning or use a knock sensor?

Indeed! The acrid smell further points towards combustion chamber deposits. I initially considered engine tuning and fiddling with the knock sensor, but a trusted mechanic advised against it, fearing potential long-term damage. Ultimately, I had the combustion chambers professionally cleaned to remove the deposits. Given your symptoms and mileage, I strongly recommend taking your Peugeot to a workshop for a diagnosis. Ignoring it could lead to more serious engine damage, and the repair bill will only increase.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were right – deposits in the combustion chamber. They cleaned it out, and it cost me 425€. Runs like new now.

Your symptoms sound awfully familiar. I once had a similar problem with my old Opel Insignia; it turned out to be excessive carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. This caused knocking, which the engine management system tried to compensate for by retarding the ignition timing. That's likely why you're experiencing power loss and jerking. Does the smoke smell particularly acrid?
