Peugeot 308 Lambda Sensor Issue

Guys, I'm desperate! My 2014 Peugeot 308 (gasoline engine) is giving me fits. The check engine light is on, it's running super rough, I can smell exhaust fumes like crazy, and I think there's an exhaust leak somewhere. It's got 211913 km on the clock. Could it be something with the DEF fluid or maybe the catalytic converter?

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my 308. Check your lambda sensors – those can cause all sorts of weird exhaust treatment malfunctions. By the way, a lambda sensor, also called an oxygen sensor, measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas. If it fails, the engine doesn't get the right air/fuel mixture, leading to bad emissions and rough running.

The lambda sensors, huh? Where are those located, and is there a way to test them without special equipment? I'm not exactly a mechanic, but I'm willing to get my hands dirty if it's something simple.

Okay, so on my 308, there are two lambda sensors. One is before the catalytic converter, and one is after. Honestly, without a code reader to see what the ECU is saying, it is really hard to tell if that's your problem. I ended up taking mine to the shop, and that's what they found. Better be safe than sorry, especially with exhaust leaks!

Thanks a bunch for the tip! I took it to my local garage, and you were spot on – a defective lambda sensor was the culprit. Cost me 375€ to get it fixed. Appreciate the help!
