No unusual noises, just BAM, gone. I haven't gone deep, just checked the basics, wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue before I started tearing into it. Where was the fault in your Opel, and did you ever fix the brake failure or just worked around it?

In my case, it turned out to be a defective electric motor in the brake calliper, as you suspected. Given the symptoms and your mileage, it's a strong possibility. While theoretically repairable, the safest bet, in my opinion, is to get it properly diagnosed and replaced by a workshop to ensure correct function. I had to pay 650€ back then.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll bite the bullet and get it checked. It's annoying since the parking brake can't be released. Estimated cost is 505€ including parts. At least its less then your Opel cost. Thanks again for the advice!

I had a similar issue with my 2017 Opel Insignia. The symptoms you describe are pretty much identical. Was there any unusual noise before the parking brake failed completely? Did you check the brake sensor or brake switch for any obvious damage?
