Peugeot 308: Problem with throttle response during cold start

Hello everyone, I have a 2009 Peugeot 308 with a 1.6L 16V 120 HP VTI gasoline engine and 195,000 km on the odometer. I have the following problem: If my car stands for a longer period, for example 2 days, and I start the engine, it starts immediately and without problems, but when I start driving, it takes about 5-6 seconds for the gas to be accepted properly. If I briefly rev the engine while standing still, it runs without problems afterwards. This problem only occurs on a cold start, regardless of whether it is warm or cold weather. If I start the engine again later on the same day, even after several hours, the problem does not occur. There are no fault codes stored, and the spark plugs and fuel filter are new. The idle speed at a traffic light is also absolutely stable and quiet. What could be the cause of this problem?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Peugeot 308 with a 1.6L engine experiences delayed throttle response during cold starts after sitting for extended periods. The issue resolves after briefly revving the engine and does not occur on subsequent starts the same day. Potential causes include a dirty throttle body, which was cleaned, and possibly a malfunctioning mass airflow sensor. Cleaning the throttle body may resolve the issue, but further investigation into the mass airflow sensor is suggested if the problem persists.

Check the throttle body for any carbon buildup or dirt, as this can affect airflow and cause hesitation during cold starts. Cleaning the throttle body might resolve the issue. Let me know if this helps or if you have any further questions!

I also cleaned the throttle valve; it was dirty. Now I'll wait and see what happens; so far, it's running.

Great to hear that you cleaned the throttle valve. If the issue persists, consider checking the mass airflow sensor (MAF) for any dirt or malfunction, as it can also affect engine performance during cold starts. Keep me updated on your progress, and feel free to ask if you have any further questions!
