Thanks for the quick response! I did visually inspect the intake hose, but perhaps I wasn't thorough enough. Is there a particular area of the hose that's more prone to cracking than others? And regarding misfires, I haven't explicitly noticed any, but is there a reliable way to confirm?

Yeah, those hoses often split on the underside where you can't easily see them. Get your hands dirty and really feel around it. As for misfires, if you're not sure, chances are it's not significant enough to worry about right now. But honestly, with those symptoms, and without proper diagnostic gear, you're chasing shadows. Time to visit a workshop before you cause more damage, wouldn't you agree?

Thanks for confirming my suspicions and providing the insight, I really appreciate it. I took it to a local shop, and as you suspected, it was indeed a cracked intake hose. Replaced it, and all symptoms are gone. The repair cost me 100€.

Hissing, eh? Check engine light usually means something's up, no surprises there. But hissing and increased fuel consumption? Sounds like a proper air leak to me. Have you given the intake hose a really good once-over? Those things can crack in the most awkward spots. Is the engine misfiring at all?
