Peugeot 4007 Knocking Combustion Issue

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2010 Peugeot 4007 gasoline engine. It's done 256779 km and recently developed a knocking combustion issue. I've noticed reduced engine power, jerking when accelerating, and some smoke when I put my foot down. Plus, the error memory has a code stored. I'm thinking it might be deposits in the combustion chamber causing pre-ignition or detonation. Could it be fuel octane related, or perhaps the knock sensor or ignition timing? Anyone experienced something similar?

I had a similar issue with my 4007. Does it happen mostly when the engine is under load? Detonation, or engine knock, occurs when the air/fuel mixture in the cylinders ignites unevenly. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) uses the knock sensor to detect this and retard the ignition timing to prevent damage. Are you using the correct fuel?

Yeah, it's definitely more noticeable when the engine's working harder, like going uphill. What fuel grade were you using when you had the problem? And did retarding the ignition timing solve it completely, or was there more to it?

I was using regular unleaded. Switched to premium and the knocking decreased, but didn't vanish. I'd advise you to get the error codes read properly and take it to a workshop. Knocking can seriously damage your engine if ignored.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right, they found significant deposits in the combustion chamber. They cleaned it all out, and the total repair cost was 425€. Runs like a charm now!
