Peugeot 4008 DPF Pressure Sensor Issue

I've got a 2014 Peugeot 4008 diesel with nearly 300,000 km. The engine warning light is on, power is down, and it's puffing out smoke when I accelerate – plus, there's a strong smell from the exhaust. My OBD reader shows a 'Diesel Particulate Filter Exhaust Pressure Too Low' error. I'm thinking it might be the exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

That sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Astra, but it was a petrol engine. Same warning lights and loss of power, felt like the car was breathing through a straw. Turned out to be a faulty sensor, but mine was related to the airflow. Did your reader give you any specific codes besides the 'low pressure' message?

The code was P2453 – Diesel Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance. Does that ring any bells, or is it a different beast altogether?

Ah, yeah, that's definitely pointing towards the DPF pressure sensor being the culprit. It's like when you have a blocked nose and can't smell anything - the sensor isn't getting the right signals. While it could be something else in the DPF system, that sensor is the most likely suspect. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to confirm, but be prepared for them to say it needs replacing.

I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. The exhaust back pressure sensor was defective. Replaced it for 245€ and now it runs like a charm again!
