Peugeot 4008 Engine Stalling After Fuel Filter Change

Having trouble with my 2015 Peugeot 4008 diesel, only 16971 km. Check engine light is on, and the engine occasionally stalls at idle. Also noticed reduced engine power. I suspect it might be related to the fuel filter change I did recently. Could it be a defective fuel pressure regulator causing a pressure drop? Not sure where to look first. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Peugeot 4008 diesel experienced engine stalling and reduced power after a recent fuel filter change, with the check engine light on. The issue was suspected to be related to a defective fuel pressure regulator causing a pressure drop. After consulting with others who had similar experiences, it was advised to check the fuel pressure. The problem was confirmed at a workshop, where the fuel pressure regulator was replaced, resolving the issue.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms – check engine light, rough idle – with my old BMW after a fuel pump replacement. The issue was related to fuel pressure. The fuel pump wasn't providing enough pressure to the fuel rail, causing the engine to stall at idle. Have you checked the fuel pressure?

Thanks for the insight. I haven't checked the fuel pressure directly yet. How did you go about diagnosing the fuel pressure issue on your BMW? Did you use a specific tool or method to measure the fuel pressure?

I used a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail. But considering the error happened after you changed the fuel filter, and you're seeing these symptoms, it's likely a fuel pressure regulation issue related to that. A defective fuel pressure regulator will cause a pressure drop. I would suggest taking it to a workshop; they can diagnose it properly and avoid further damage.

Thanks a lot for your advice! You were right, I went to the workshop. It was indeed the fuel pressure regulator, likely damaged during the fuel filter change. They replaced it, cost me 45€, and now it runs smoothly again. Appreciate the help!
