Peugeot 4008 heavy steering vibration

Hi, I'm experiencing some issues with my 2014 Peugeot 4008 diesel with 224645 km. Recently, the steering has become much heavier, like the power steering is failing intermittently. Also, the steering wheel vibrates quite a bit at certain speeds. I've checked the power steering fluid level, which seems fine. Could this be related to wheel alignment or perhaps a traction control issue?

I had a similar problem with my 4008. The symptoms you describe point towards the steering angle sensor. Have you had any warning lights on the dashboard?

Thanks for the quick reply! No warning lights are showing up on the dashboard, which is strange. Is the steering angle sensor difficult to replace, and would a faulty sensor cause the vibrating steering wheel as well?

No warning lights makes it a bit more odd, but doesn't rule out the sensor. The vibrating steering wheel is likely connected, as the sensor provides input to the power steering system and stability control. I wouldn't attempt a replacement yourself; it often requires recalibration afterwards. Coding of the sensor might be the issue. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed and potentially recalibrated or replaced. Could save you money in the long run.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. It was the steering angle sensor. The mechanic said the coding was faulty. They replaced it and recalibrated everything. The final bill was 195€. Steering is perfect now!
